Students will participate in a high school service project after chapel, until 2 p.m., Nov. 22. For most of the day, students will be split into groups supervised by teachers in order to organize and clean out FC’s classrooms, utilities and storage facilities.
For first period, second period and chapel, classes will run under a regular Tuesday chapel schedule. Classes will resume for eighth period, after which FC will be let out for Thanksgiving break.
In order to interest students, each group will work in an field that has significance to them, according to Student Leadership Adviser Robert Foshee.
“Each student will be working in an area, on or off campus, that is in their interest area,” Foshee said. “For example, students in journalism are helping with journalism, students in music are helping in music and students who have younger siblings are helping at the North East campus.”
Sophomore Rayna Endicott says that she is excited for the project because it presents an opportunity to assist the school community.
“I’m so ready for service day because we get to do something else instead of going to class by helping out the school,” Endicott said. “It’s important to serve because God calls us to and it’s a good thing to do. It’s just a great way to end school before we go on break.”
Ultimately, Foshee says that the service project is geared towards FC’s spiritual mission.
“The purpose of the service day is to continue with our mission of equipping young people to have the discipline of service,” Foshee said. “All of our groups, athletic teams and classes serve throughout the year on their own, but I also think it’s important to serve together corporately.”
