BOYS’ SOCCER, 2011-12
FOWLER TOPS FC, 5-0–Jan. 10
To open up the first day of West Sequoia League play, the Eagles took on the Fowler Redcats, Jan. 10.
Fowler struck early as they were awarded a penalty kick and scored to go up 1-0. The Redcats continued their offensive attack to finish the half at 3-0. Not only was the offense on top of their game, but also the defense because they were able to keep FC scoreless, winning 5-0.
First year varsity player Jon Agao, ’14, says he was pulling for a better result from the team, but looking back on the loss sees some of their difficulties.
“I was expecting the game to be pretty good because I knew we had been playing well, but I didn’t know how Fowler was,” Agao said. “I think we just lost because of being under pressure in the game because in practice we’re not used to that same pressure.”
Junior midfielder Juan Ruelas agrees with Agao and says they were plagued with minor mistakes.
“I really though we were going to win because we had a bigger team, we had subs and we’ve grown as a team because we didn’t lose anyone,” Ruelas said. “I think just the small mistakes was what hurt us. We had gone three weeks without playing a game and that was kind of like a shock to us when we played Fowler.”
Ruelas says he is already anticipating their next match against the Redcats.
“I think we can pull ourselves together for the rest of league and I know that the next time we play Fowler we are not going to give them an easy game,” Ruelas said.
Coach unable to respond to questions this week.
The Eagles will next travel to play Parlier, Jan. 13.
