BRIEF: Athletic Department to sell banners

In order to support the athletic department at FC, there is an opportunity to purchase advertising signs for the year of 2012-13.

“It benefits clubs that sell it, benefits the school because the athletic department’s budget is part of the school, and if somebody is short on money for a trip or something, we can provide,” Athletic Director Dan Stockton said.

The buyer can choose to showcase their signs in the football and soccer stadium, the basketball arena or both the baseball and softball fields. Signs can can contain companies’ advertisements with artwork, or just encouraging words from a fan.

The signs sizes 4×6 feet, and costs $700 each. Furthermore, all signs are guaranteed one year from sale date. Renewal of a sign costs $300 a year. Those interested in buying should contact secretary Michelle Regnerus in the athletic office.

Stockton views this fundraiser as a way to assist the athletic department in addition to helping businesses who chip in.

“It’s a way to raise money and help the clubs and everybody too.” Stockton said. “All small businesses and some large businesses in Fresno and most people will do it because we can give them back a certificate of donation to the school, which is a tax write-off.

“Let’s say I make $100,000 a year and I donate $700, I get that that write off, and it means a lot to businesses because they’re doing something good by getting there name out there in the lights, and we also get a donation,” Stockton said.

According to Stockton, the signs are of high quality, and allow buyers to leave their mark on the school.

“It’s made up of a permanent material which will never deteriorate, it’s all first class and looks good.” Stockton said. “We want to get the the complete basketball court, the baseball diamond, and the football stadium loaded with them because its money for the department.”
