TRANQUILLITY BESTS FC 3-0–Jan. 20
The Eagles match up against the Tranquillity Tigers, was a non-league game to break up the series of West Sequoia Leage games, Jan. 20. Although Tranquillity defeated the Eagles 3-0, the game was close with exchanges in control of the ball and several opportunities to score by both teams.
Tranquillity’s first goal was 15 minutes into the first half when they received a penalty kick, 1-0. They then knocked one more in to go up 2-0 at half, but senior Josh Hopper says despite being down by two this was an encouraging game.
“We always get walloped by Tranaquillity, but the fact that we were able to hold them shows we can maybe beat Fowler and compete against Parlier which would be really good,” Hopper said.
In the second half the Tigers were able to score one more goal to win 3-0. FC however, had their share of chances on goal, but none were able to find the back of the net.
Hopper continued on to say that the score may be misleading as possession of the ball constantly shifted.
“Score wise this game wasn’t much better, but if you were at the game you could tell that in comparison to other games, this game was much more solid on our part,” Hopper said. “Our defense was secure and we were doing a good job of pressuring their defense as to keep the ball on their half.”
Sophomore Jason Kim agrees with Hopper in that after this game he has more confidence in his team to be able to perform well.
“We had a lot of chances to score and I honestly thought we could’ve won,” Kim said. “I thought that our spirit was also stronger and we were trying hard. I always thought our team wasn’t that good, but after Tranquillity I have more faith in our team that we can win.”
The Eagles will next travel to play Caruthers, Jan. 24.
