BOYS’ SOCCER, 2011-12
BLUE RAIDERS DOWN EAGLES, 6-0–Jan. 24
The Eagles faced off against the Caruthers Blue Raiders, for the second time this seaon, Jan. 24. FC previously lost to them 8-0 in the Fowler Tournament, Dec. 7, and once again fell short, losing 6-0 this time.
Throughout the game FC had looks on goal, but were unable to knock any into the back of the net
For this game the Eagles changed their positioning on the field to try something new which resulted in several looks on goal, but the Eagles were unable to kick any past Caruthers’ keeper. Freshman Nick Fontes says the new formation was initially helpful, but had problems.
“I thought that the new formation helped us get more opportunities on goal, but the system doesnt really help if we dont capitalize on those opportunities,” Fontes said.
Fontes feels the team still makes steps of improvement each game and has hopes for a league win.
“I think overall the team has improved a lot from the beginning of the season but we have a ways to go if we want to start winning games,” Fontes said. “If everyone keeps practicing hard and we continue on the path we are on we are bound to win a game.”
First year player, Tyler Laird, ’14, decided to join this season and says he is anticipating their rematch against Fowler, Jan. 27.
“I haven’t really played a team sport so I wanted to try it because some of my friends were playing,” Laird said. “I think that we can do better against Fowler and it will be a close game because we’ve improved a lot.”
The Eagles will next host Fowler at home, Jan. 27.
