The jazz band will be traveling to Tulare to participate in the Mid-Valley Jazz Festival hosted at Cherry Avenue Middle School, Feb. 1.
This is the first festival of the semester for the jazz band and first-time band student Suzy Carroll, ’14, says that she is worried about her personal performance during the set.
“I don’t feel ready and I don’t want to play,” Carroll said. “This is a new instrument [the tenor saxophone] for me and I still don’t know how to play it well.”
Despite Carroll’s insecurities she has a positive thoughts towards the festival and the group’s playing as a whole.
“I think that we are going to do well as a group,” Carroll said. “We play well together, especially on our song, ‘Hit the Bricks.'”
The band plans to showcase the three pieces: “Chicken,” “Hit the Bricks” and “Blackbird.”
Music Director Michael Ogdon says that he expects the group to have fun at the performance.
“We are going to be tired from playing the pop band music, but it has given us the extra practice time,” Ogdon said. “I think we are going to have fun tomorrow. My only worry is that David Casuga, ’12, might be sick, so we’ll just have to see how it goes.”
The FC jazz band will be playing at 9:40 a.m. in the school auditorium. There is no fee to watch them perform.
