After performing throughout the year and participating in a competition, the varsity cheer squad will travel to Anaheim, CA for USA Nationals, March 30-April 2.
The group will participate in the United Spirit Association (USA) Nationals, in the show cheer intermediate navis division including several squads from across the country. They qualified for the event at USA Regionals in Antioch, Jan. 14.
The team will travel up individually March 28-29, and compete at the Anaheim Convention Center, in the morning, March 30. If they qualify, they will perform again the following day.
Regardless, many team members will cap the trip with a visit to Disneyland. The team will compete against 177 other schools and about 10,000 other cheerleaders.
Most girls are ready to compete against these larger schools despite FC’s small size.
“Even though we have a small team, out skill level is pretty good,” Callista Fries, ’15, said. “I think if we focus and try our hardest we will do pretty well.”
Fries believes that the recent practices have helped the team prepare for the Nationals competition.
“We have been practicing pretty hard for the last week and I think that it has helped us immensely in preparation for the competition,” Fries said. “The girls have been working hard.”
Freshman Lexi Fenster is excited, not only for the competition, but also the time with her teammates.
“I think we will do great this weekend when we preform,” Fenster said. “It will be really fun to hang out with the girls at Disneyland and have bonding time with the team.”
