GIRLS’ SOFTBALL, 2011-12
The Eagles hosted the Parlier Panthers, but three players suffered from injuries in previous games. Although the Eagles do not have any substitutes, sophomore Illeana See came back on the field after recovering from her injury, April 23.
The game started slow for the Eagles as they only scored a run in the first four innings. On the other hand, the Panthers came out strong as they scored 3 runs in the first four innings and continued to score 4 more. However, the Eagles were not willing to give up, scoring another run in the sixth inning, but was not enough to defeat the Panthers. The Eagles lost to Parlier, 9-2.
Sophomore pitcher Jenna Weimer says that the team needs to stay strong even when they are losing. Since softball is a team sport, she believes that communicating is a crucial part of the sport.
“I think it?s important that we stay emotionally strong,” Weimer said. “I started out pretty well but towards the middle I couldn?t stay strong the entire game. It?s also important to communicate with my teammates. Because sometimes we are so focused on the game that we forget to encourage each other. So I need to let them know that they are doing a great job throughout the game.”
According to freshman Gaby Siqueiros, it is necessary for the team to listen to the coaching staff and take their advice. Siqueiros says that the team will benefit more from simple plays rather than unfamiliar and complicated ones.
“We could have done better,” Siqueiros said. “We really need to listen to our coaches whenever they tell us something. Also, we should focus on simple plays rather than complicated ones. As long as we are willing to work hard and don?t give up on ourselves, I think we will win more games in the future.”
According to See, it is important to stay positive. See says that the team needs to put the past games behind them and focus on upcoming games.
“We need to stop thinking about the past games,” See said. “Because whenever we loose, we tend to think we are going to lose the next game as well. So it is important that we stay positive and start fresh each game.”
The Eagles will next play against Riverdale High School on April 26 at 4 p.m.
