The FC Eagles started off the annual Fowler Lions Tournament with a tie against Fowler, 1-1, and beat the Parlier Panthers, 1-0, Nov. 28. During the second day of the tournament, the Eagles defeated Immanuel High School, 5-0, and had one loss against the Kerman Lions, 2-1, Nov. 29.
After losing their last game, the Eagles thought they would play for fifth or sixth place, Dec. 1, but received news that Kerman was disqualified from the tournament for unknown reasons, therefore moving FC to placing second in their pool, Pool A.
The Eagles will now play at 9 a.m. against the number one seed in Pool B, the Caruthers Blue Raiders, Dec. 1. Whoever loses the game will go on to play for third place at 12 p.m., while the winner will move on to the championship game at 2 p.m.
Although second year varsity girls’ soccer coach Tony Martinez was present for the first two days of the tournament, he will be out of town on Saturday. Assistant coach Olivia Torres will take over for Martinez and looks forward to the game.
“I think the team will do great tomorrow,” Torres said. “I know they are a bunch of talented girls and I know they will do very well as long as they come focused and ready to play.”
Though the anticipation of the game is exciting, Torres also wants the team to focus communicating and maintaining confidence in their skills.
“I want them to focus on communicating with each other and also looking for the short passes and moving the ball around,” Torres said. “I also want them to play smart and to not be scared of the competition because they are just as good as them.”
First year varsity defensive player Morgan Koop, ’16, also looks forward to playing with her team and believes that they have improved their work since the first game of the tournament.
“I’m looking forward to us playing more as a team so that we can get together and hopefully win,” Koop said. “I think we’ve done pretty well in the tournament from our first game. We’ve been playing better together and are starting to become a better team.”
