As the semester draws to a close, students often stress over finals and completing class assignments. It seems to be the usual for students to cram and stress about their final tests and semester grade, however have no fear: here are some awesome studying tips from your fellow students and great ideas to try to avoid the anxiety of finals.
According to The Huffington Post, there are some great and interesting tips to maximize your energy and limit the amount of tension before the big week.
Tip No. 1, STUDY IN CHUNKS: Cramming due to procrastination seems to be the trend these days. According to the Dartmouth Academic Skills Center, try to study in 20-50 minute increments and give yourself a 5 to 10 minute break between each session. For the best results, study throughout one full week.
Tip No. 2, LISTEN TO MOZART: Most teens enjoy music while they study; however, Mozart’s compositions have been shown to activate both the right and left sides of the brain in listeners. Stimulation of both sides is linked with increased recall, and so listening while studying can help increase the amount of info you retain.
Tip No. 3, DRINK COCO: Eat food? A MUST! Who would of thought hot coco could help out when your nose is deep in the books? Packed with antioxidants as well as cognitive and mood enhancers, the coco bean has been named a superfood. However, when processed into a candy for example, the healthy aspects of the food are drained. To take full advantage of the nutritious bean, dissolve a spoonful of organic cocoa into a hot milk of your choice and add cinnamon, espresso and cayenne pepper for optimal energy, and enjoy!
Tip No. 4, APPROACH EACH EXAM DIFFERENTLY: If you try to study for your math exam the way you would study for an English exam, you probably will not do very well. Check out this handy guide to learn how to study for language, chemistry, math and essay-based exams.
Tip No. 5, DON’T STRESS!: Take a breath! To calm yourself down — and prevent from blanking during the test — spend some time before the exam imagining yourself acing it. You also might want to induce stress while studying, and then practice quelling fear by taking deep breaths, focusing on what you know and keeping things (including the importance of the test) in perspective.
