The California Scholarship Federation (CSF) is a club that invites students with high academic qualities and a volunteering heart to serve their community. As the first week of the second semester comes to a close, applications to reapply to the club are now available. Applications are available from CSF advisor Molly Sargent as well as well as the high school office and are due the Jan. 23.
The club invites the eligible students to participate because it can benefit them for college admission and service hours. Sargent believes that joining the club can provide unique extra curricular activities.
“In high school it is really important to get involved in something extra curricular,” Sargent said. “CSF gives students a chance to be active in the community and of service. The club helps with self discipline, teaches commitment and, primarily, it directly benefits the student.”
CSF is not only just a club or gateway to participation in the community and campus, but it can also help academically on resumes.
“While participating in CSF students have the opportunity to earn scholarships and possibilities for community service that they can mention on their collage application, and honestly it is just fun,” Sargent said. “It gives you time to spend time with classmates and bond while being in the act of service.”
There are some special perks included in participating in the club, including off campus privileges which are normally only given to seniors.
“When you are a part of CSF you are able to go off campus for lunch,” Sargent said. “Usually only seniors are normally allowed to do that, so that is a fun and special privilege granted to the underclassmen.
During the last semester of school Sargent has several interesting projects and tasks planned for the students including free tutoring.
“The main goal for the semester is to start a tutoring program after school for the children who are living in the newly renovated hotel that the Fresno Rescue Mission has built,” Sargent said. “The hope is to start tutoring twice a week, say Tuesdays and Thursdays, and we ask the students who participate to be consistant because tutoring is a commitment.”
CSF can also provide a chance to demonstrate leadership and gain academic skills. This semester, students will participate in service projects, selling lunches and many more activities.
“Students who join and are accepted are in for a great semester and fun time,” Sargent said. “The sooner the applications get turned in the better.”
