To help raise money for the mentorship program between FC students and the kids at Break the Barriers (BTB), National Football League (NFL) quarterback Tim Tebow will come to Fresno to speak at FC’s “Inspire Gala” at the Convention Center New Exhibit Hall. With Tebow scheduled to be in Fresno, April 5, a film crew spent this week on campus capturing on camera the mentorship between BTB and FC.
The film crew, overseen by Superintendent Debbie Siebert, took footage at both the BTB gym and on the FC campus to help Tebow’s audience see where their donations will be invested.
Siebert says that the forum of the event is to showcase FC’s work at BTB and to fundraise for the improvement and continuation of the program.
“The event being held is to explain and celebrate the partnership between Break the Barriers and Fresno Christian,” Siebert said. “I think this is a great opportunity for our school to get in better touch with the community and unite our school with other organizations.”
Siebert supervised the film crew’s work and took them around campus for their various shots. She is also helping to set up and hold Tebow’s event in the hopes that the video will promote the relationship between the two organizations.
“The purpose of the video is to highlight the mentorship program FC has with Break the Barriers,” Siebert said. “We want to help the audience see where their funds are going and encourage them to support the program.”
Siebert explains that the video will also advertise and give exposure to FC as well as BTB.
“This experience is really giving a large amount of positive exposure to FC, it is very exciting as well as overwhelming,” Siebert said. “We are so blessed to be able and come together and hold this event.”
The footage will be edited into a five-minute video for the extravaganza. A team of four people will shoot, edit and proof the short film. Head filmer Allison Boogaert-Sudiacal has enjoyed her assignment because of the opportunity it has given her to see into the daily lives of students.
“We are here gathering footage for the Tim Tebow event that is celebrating the partnership between your school and Break The Barriers,” Boogaert-Sudiacal said. “It has been a lot of fun bouncing back and forth between the two because we get to see how different you guys are yet share the same values, it is just really interesting.”
The video will include footage of students learning in their classrooms, worshipping in chapel, exercising in P.E. and working on journalism for The Feather.
“It is a great partnership, and we have interviewed some students and taken film from both places to make sure we portray both organizations accurately,” Allsion said. “We will put everything that we have collected together and use it at the big event and to promote the program.”
Allison and her husband, Tim Sudical, own their film company and produce the videos first-hand. Their crew travels together and works on their projects around the clock.
“I am the sound guy for our business, so I basically look at the voice patterns and the frequency to see if the reaction and statements are genuine and line up with the film,” Tim said. “It is a really interesting job, and I get to meet new people and experience a lot.”
In this line of work, what is seen is not as easy as it looks. The video may appear seamless but it takes a lot of work and time behind the scenes to produce a good film.
Film editor Beth Wilkonson, says she puts in about a week’s worth of work just to put together a five minute video. Despite the time commitment, she enjoys the reward for her work.
“I edit the videos we make and it is very time consuming, but well worth the work,” Wilkonson said. “It is very enjoyable to be working on the projects and meeting new people, and I love my job.”
The crew will come to the school over the next two weeks to gather the rest of their footage. This past week was spent shooting video and this week will be spent finishing shots and audio, Feb. 19-22.
