FC LOSES TO COALINGA HORNED TOADS–April 11
The FC tennis team travelled to play the Coalinga Horned Toads, April 11.
The Eagles were defeated 7-2, losing most of the matches higher up on the ladder. The Eagles’ two wins came from fourth singles and third doubles. They also gave up close matches in first and second doubles.
Sophomore Jordan Castro won his third doubles match with Rick Morrison. He said he enjoys the more relaxed feel of third doubles.
“It was my second match, and it was a lot of fun,” Castro said. “Most of the players are new to the game, so the game is a matter of who gets the ball in most. Since I’m pretty tall and I can jump and slam the ball, doubles is a lot of fun for me.”
Freshman Andrew Moore viewed Coalinga was a tough opponent.
“I thought that they as a team were very strong,” Andrew said. “I played a decent match, but the guy I played was really good. I hope to do better next time.”
Varsity tennis coach Robert Foshee noted that the team can learn from their mistakes in Coalinga.
“It was a really windy day, and we’d never been to Coalinga before, so overall the team did a pretty good job,” Foshee said. “They had to work to keep it all out of their heads and just play the match. We didn’t in the match, but we had a good learning experience, since it was just the second match of the season.
The Eagles will next travel to play the Riverdale Cowboys, April 16.
