To finish off their year at FC, the seniors on the worship team put on their own chapel, May 16. Most of the music was performed by the seniors, and they shared their thoughts on how underclassmen should treat their high school experience. To many, the final chapel represents the final departing of the senior class.
Seniors Matt Adams, Brandon Porter, Abby Cowan and McKay Mohun all spoke their thoughts about their experiences in front of their peers. They gave advice about a variety of topics, including the behavior of freshmen and enjoying life as a teenager.
Worship Team Director David Martens finds the Senior Chapel to be a good way to finish a school year. He believes that it allows the seniors to fully conclude their year.
“I think the chapel is a good way to wrap up the year, especially for the seniors,” Marten said. “It helps them to put some closure on the year and share from their experience to encourage some of the underclassmen. It’s kind of like a final goodbye to the rest of the classes.”
For Martens, the chapel is one of the best things in Worship Team. The tradition has continued for as long as he remembers.
“I love the Senior Chapel,” Martens said. “For me, it is somewhat of a highlight throughout the year in Worship Team. We’ve been doing this chapel for as long as I have been coordinator of the worship team. I’m not sure exactly when the tradition started.”
Garrett Childs, ’13, enjoyed the chapel and thought that it was a good way to say goodbye to the seniors. He appreciated the differences from the usual chapels.
“I liked the Senior Chapel,” Childs said, “It was pretty cool that the seniors were able to fill all the parts in the worship team and play for everyone. It was a good way to send our class off, and I liked how the seniors were able to impart some final advice to the other students.”
For Kevin Thao, ’13, the chapel is a time of remembering past chapels and experiences. He enjoyed the break from school and worship experience that going to chapel provides.
“I loved this Senior Chapel; it was a lot of fun,” Thao said. “For me, it?s kind of like reminiscing about all the chapels that we have had here before, and it hits you that high school is truly over. In a way, it?s sad and happy at the same time. It is great to see that the seniors cared about everyone else. The chapel experience at FC is awesome; it is an opportunity to relax and stop thinking about school and worship God.”
Kristen Rosenthal, ’13, finds the Senior Chapel is a final time to cap off her high school experience. She believes that chapel is a major blessing, since it let her get closer to God and experience new things.
“Senior Chapel was really great, and I can?t believe that it hasn?t clicked for me yet that this is the last chapel I?ll go to,” Rosenthal said. “I remember my first time walking into chapel in seventh grade; I had never been to one before, and it was really crazy. We are truly lucky to have chapel here. When you go to summer camps or anything where there is a school experience but no chapel, it shows you how chapel makes life easier and helps you get through the week. It has helped me to get closer to God and experience things I wouldn?t normally have experienced.”
