EAGLES DROP LEAGUE MATCH, 6-3
On April 23 and 24 the Eagles tennis team played the Firebaugh Eagles twice, losing both matches.
FC lost the first match 5-4 at home, and the second 6-3 in Firebaugh. Firebaugh dominated singles, winning the first five singles matches in the second match.
Coach Robert Foshee emphasized Firebaugh’s ability as a team in tennis.
“Firebaugh was a really strong team,” Foshee said. “They were fundamentally strong from top to bottom. Every year they are a competitive team, our matches there have always been close.”
Sophomore Andrew Hindes agreed that Firebaugh was one of the top teams in league. He won both his doubles matches against Firebaugh, but lost twice in singles.
“They were really good, especially in singles,” Hindes said. “It was hard to play them twice in a row. The guy I played was really consistent and I made enough mistakes that he beat me.”
Garrett Hill, sophomore, also lost both his singles matches. He added that the scheduling made playing difficult.
“The guy I played was really good,” Hill said. “I think I lost 8-3 in the first match, and the second match wasn’t much better. Their whole ladder is good at tennis, not just the top few players. I didn’t like playing two matches in a row.”
The Eagles tennis team played next at Dos Palos on April 25.
