This year, Student Leadership aims to provide entertaining lunch-time activities for the student body. For their first event, Student Leadership hosted an Otter Pop Eating Contest, Aug. 26.
The challenge was to eat five otter pops the fastest. Though the challenge does not seem that hard, contestants ran into problems like numb mouths, brain freezes and messy hands. Two rounds allowed five students to compete in the first round, and six students the second time.
In the first round, junior Jason Swain came in first place with a time of 3:05. In the second round, senior Grant Flamming swept the competition, coming in as champion with a time of 1:55.
As winner, Flamming received some otter pops he could enjoy at a normal pace along with a trophy that proclaimed him champion.
Overall, the contestants ate about 70 otter pops collectively. As they ate, their peers watched and cheered for their favorite contestant, making the lunch period one of the more rowdy days.
