FC teachers and advisors have always sought out new ways to reach their students and prepare them for college; Naviance is the newest addition to the plethora of tools available to the student body. The program is a college and career readiness tool that helps students plan for their future using a variety of assessments and resources. It allows students to be more productive and focused in their college and career planning.
Naviance is an online program that is easily accessed with a number of different activities one can do to advance themselves in college preparation. Academic advisor, Michelle Warkentin encourages students to explore the site.
“Students should take advantage of this resource because it is free, easy to use and will benefit them in so many ways,” Warkentin said. “Through the Naviance program students will be able to notify me of the colleges they will be applying to so that when I meet with them individually we can have a more focused and purposeful conversation.”
Warkentin explains the many possible benefits to the program.
“The benefits to this program are endless,” Warkentin said. “Students have access to the most well-known and highly effective personality assessments which create a personalized profile that allows them to search for colleges and careers that will best fit them. Also students are able to take advantage of free online SAT preparation with a program called PrepMe, which is built into the Naviance website.”
Not only does the site help the student understand their own strengths, it also allows room for exploration and information on how to begin a college application.
“Students can also do extensive research on financial aid and the college admissions process through links embedded in the Naviance website,” Warkentin said. “There are so many more benefits but these are just a few that students have been able to access thus far.”
Warkentin explains how eager she is for students to utilize the tool because not only does it help them, but it can help her preform her job better.
“The biggest benefit is that it helps me to do my job more effectively and allows them to be much more prepared for college and career by the time students reach their senior year,” Warkentin said. “The hope is that it will also relieve students from some of the anxiety that comes with senior year.”
Warkentin suggests that all students take advantage of the many services it has to offer.
“All in all, Naviance is a great program because it has done the legwork for students,” Warkentin said. “It has combined all the things high school students need to know and plan for in order to be successful after high school and they have put it all in one amazing website.”
