FC students will have the opportunity to speak with several Christian college representatives on campus during lunch, Tuesday, Sept. 24. There will be will 31 colleges represented at the event to provide students with information.
FC?s college fair precedes the much larger Christian college assembly to be hosted at Buchanan High School later in the evening. This annual convention takes place from 6 to 8 p.m. boasting such schools as Azusa Pacific University, Biola University and California Baptist University through the North American Coalition for Christian Admissions Professionals (NACCAP).
School Academic Advisor Michelle Warkentin is excited for the opportunities that the students will benefit from in attending the college fair.
“I am very excited about today’s college fair because it allows students the opportunity to talk to college representatives from institutions around the United States without having to step on campus,” Warkentin said. “It gives students exposure to schools they may not have considered if they had not come on campus. Although the majority are Christian colleges, there will also be some technology schools, a fashion design school and Fresno State will be represented.”
Chloe Duerr, ?14, a former FC student who currently attends Buchanan, attended the college fair last year and found the experience unhelpful.
“I didn?t enjoy it that much due to the size,” Duerr said. “It didn?t have many colleges to choose from and I wasn?t interested in the ones that came. I won?t be going this year due to my experience from last year.”
Other students, however, feel enthusiastic about the event. Junior Adam Khouzam looks forward to meeting with the college representatives and learning about more Christian Universities.
“I think what I?m looking forward to most is finding out about colleges,” Khouzam said. “I also hope to find out more of what these colleges have to offer and how they can reach my interests.”
Warkentin believes that all students should attend, underclassmen included, in order to get a wide range of schools they can learn more about.
“Every student should participate for several reasons,” Warkentin said. “Most importantly, because it is a great experience to learn about various colleges, their culture and the admission process. Secondly because students will receive extra credit for their English class by participating, and lastly because by participating they will be entered into a raffle drawing with the chance to win cool prizes.”
Senior Robbie Hill believes that meeting with the college fair provides a good opportunity for underclassmen to gain new knowledge about different colleges.
“I?m not going to be attending our college fair this year,” Hill said. “However, I would recommend that all underclassmen go; it is a great experience and it will help them learn more about college.”
Admission to the college fair at lunch is free for all campus students, and the one at Buchanan is free to all high school students.
