EAGLES DEFEAT TIGERS, SEPT. 26
The Tranquillity Tigers hit the road to take on the Fresno Christian Eagles, Sept. 26.
After a hard week of practice, and loosing ten sets in a row, the Eagles came out with a fire that had not been seen in a while. In game one, they were swinging away making sure to try hard for every point winning the set 25-16.
In game two, the team went back on the court with the same intensity as game one. Senior Annaleah Madison and junior Gabriela Siqueiros were the hard hitters in this game. The final score was 25-18.
In the third game, the Eagles relaxed a little more, staying not more than 3 points ahead of the Tigers. Toward the end of the set, junior Ivette Ibarra went to make a block landing on Siqueiros’ foot.
Ibarra then was clearly seen limping on the court still trying to make a play off of the ball. Despite her efforts, the Eagles lost the point and Ibarra was taken off of the court.
“I was feeling a lot of pain,” Ibarra said. “But I knew I had to keep playing until the point was over.”
The injury quickly drained the lady Eagles of their intensity and they lost the set 20-25.
In the final set of the game, the Eagles realized they would have to pick up their slack. They came out fast and hard keeping the Tigers to only 11 points. Head coach Jeff MacNeill felt proud of his girls performances in the last game.
“In the third game one of our starters was injured so we had to make some game time adjustments and fight back,” MacNeill said. “They came back in the fourth game and played the best they?ve played all season. To see them overcome adversity in such a way where they were presented with a problem and had to work as a team was very inspiring. This was a team.”
