In this edition of “Get to Know,” staff writer Matthew Garza interviews Trevor Trevino, ’17.
Basketball has always been a passion for Trevor Trevino, ’17, along with drumming. He started playing basketball in 7th grade and drumming in 2nd grade.
Garza: How long have you been attending FC?
Trevino: I have been attending FC all my life.
Garza: How did you hear about FC before you came to the school?
Trevino: My mom attended this school throughout high school [graduated in 1988], which is how we heard about it.
Garza: What are your thoughts so far about FC?
Trevino: The teachers are very friendly. They love to express the word of God. They always have kind spirits, and are forgiving and willing to share their knowledge and wisdom.
Garza: What has been your most cherished school memory?
Trevino: Playing varsity basketball freshman year, and being able to perform and play music with the best music teacher in the world, Mr. [Michael] Ogdon.
Garza: What are your goals this year?
Trevino: To do well in my AP classes and utilize skillful time management with sports, music, and grades.
Garza: What kind of challenges are you facing this year regarding school?
Trevino: Basketball, taking on AP US history and creating better relationships with people at this school.
Garza:How did you first hear about Christ?
Trevino: Mr. [Terry] Richards prayed with me back in 7th grade and thats when I accepted Christ.
Garza: What is your favorite Bible verse?
Trevino: Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and He will make your paths straight.” (NIV)
Garza: What are your goals after high school?
Trevino: Getting accepted to a four-year university, and strengthening my relationship with Christ.
Garza: What sparked your interest in basketball/drumming?
Trevino: Training for basketball in 7th grade sparked my interest. My dad signed me up for drum lessons when I was 7 years old.
Garza:Do you have a favorite team/drummer?
Trevino: My favorite drummer is Tony Royster, Jr. because he plays for Jay-Z and he has incredible hand speed. My favorite basketball team is the Los Angeles Clippers because of their team chemistry on the court.
Garza: What is most challenging to you when it comes to playing basketball/drums?
Trevino: In basketball, playing with bigger people than me. During drumming I’m constantly working to develop hand speed.
Garza:How was it being the only freshman on the varsity basketball team last year?
Trevino: It was great getting to learn the style, feel, and pace of the game at the varsity level. It was a mix of trying to handle the tough perks of being the smallest one on the team and finding my personal role on the team.
Garza: What is your favorite thing to do outside of basketball/drumming?
Trevino: Honestly, I don’t really have a favorite thing to do outside of basketball and drumming.
