Recently, I’ve realized that small schools give students a lot of advantages that large, public schools cannot. I went to Granite Ridge for junior high followed by Clovis North High School for my freshman, sophomore and junior year. But now I’m at Fresno Christian for my senior year.
There’s a lot of things that “lifers” at FC cannot fully appreciate that those of us who transfer in can. For example, this is the first time where teachers I don’t even have bother to learn not just my name, but all about me.
The teachers here can afford to care about their students. Not to say that public school teachers don’t care, but the average public school teacher sees 240 students in class each day compared to the average Fresno Christian teacher who sees maybe 100.
Another noticeable difference are the students here. In public school, its all about cutting each other down. But here, every one is family. We say far more in a loving way than a spiteful one.
With only 200 kids in the whole high school, we’re kind of stuck with each other. Of course, there are times where we get sick of each other, but at the end of the day we’re all friends.
The relationships I’ve formed here in the past two months are stronger then the ones I could form in five years at any public school. I chose Fresno Christian for the community feel in school.
