EAGLES CONTINUE LEAGUE DOMINANCE; WIN 66-48, Jan. 24
For their second game in West Sequioa League play, the Eagles travelled to Parlier High School to take on the Panthers. The 10-6 (1-0) team looked to stay undefeated in WSL and improve upon an already impressive record.
The Eagles came out strong, scoring six points in the opening minute quickly leading to a Panthers timeout. After returning to the court, the Eagles continued to score consistently, however, Parlier began the flex their muscles. As a result, the teams combined to score over 40 points by the end of the first quarter. In the second, both teams cooled off a little as the defenses of both teams stepped up. Neither team was able to pull away as the Eagles lead the Panthers by eight at the half.
In the third, the Eagles heated up again and found a way to attack the Panther zone, resulting in an almost twenty point lead by the end of the third. In the fourth, both teams continued to play hard, but the game did not get any closer. When the final buzzer sounded, the Eagles were on top 66-48.
Senior Brian Scott led the way for the Eagles, scoring 23 points. Meanwhile, Parlier did not submit their scorers.
Head coach Robert Hubbard says that the team accomplished their goal of getting a win, but the game was way to close against a mediocre team.
“A win is a win,” Coach Hubbard said, “but we let a subpar team score too many points against us. We need to step up the intensity and effort on defense if we want to reach our ultimate goal: a West Sequioa League championship and a Central Section Division IV title.”
The Eagles next game will be held in Riverdale as the team travels to take on the Cowboys.
