Looking for a thoughtful way to show your friends you care? Or a sweet Christmas gift? Swing by the journalism lab in your free time and get a Candy Cane Gram for those special people.
In past years, The Feather staff has raised money during December for the Evangel Home, a shelter for abused women and children in downtown Fresno. This is the third consecutive year that the students have taken the initiative to give back to the community.
In the past, The Feather staff has volunteered at the home as well as donated various items such as gifts, food items and even clothing. The purpose for Candy Cane Grams is to bless those less fortunate and give back to the community in an act of service.
Photo Editor Rayna Endicott believes the fundraiser is a great way to bring Christmas spirit and joy to the student body.
“It’s a great idea because it’s a fun way to incorporate Christmas spirit at our school,” Endicott said. “It’s also a way we can serve our community through the money we raise from the sales. It brings joy to our students here who receive the Candy Cane Grams but we’re also sharing our joy with others by purchasing them.”
To participate in the fundraiser, students can purchase a gram for a dollar, write a note to a friend, parent, grandparent or teacher, and return the printed card to the computer lab. The Feather staff will then deliver the gram by Dec. 13. All proceeds from the sale will go directly to the home.
