EAGLES DROP SEASON OPENER, 3-1, Dec. 3
On December 3, the FC varsity boys soccer team traveled to Visalia to take on the Central Valley Christian Cavaliers, Dec. 3. The Eagles lost 3-1 after tying the game 1-1 near the middle of the first half.
The Cavaliers struck first, scoring an early goal. About ten minutes later, Taylor Howard scored for FC to tie the game. The tie held for several minutes, but CVC scored late in the first half, making the halftime score 2-1. The Cavaliers led of the second half with another goal and the Eagles failed to score in the second half, finishing with a final score of 3-1.
Coach Matt Markarian emphasized that the team has room to keep growing and improving.
“It was good for our first effort, Markarian said. “We could have played better, but there were some bright spots, like Bailey (Brogan) and Taylor (Howard). We have a lot to build on. We’re a young team; we’re going to do well this year.”
Sophomore Andrew Moore thought that the team played well overall.
“I think we did pretty well for most of the game,” Moore said. “There were a couple of mistakes that cost us, but we mostly did well. We played pretty well, for the first game.”
Junior Taylor Howard, who scored the lone goal for FC, was optimistic about the Eagles’ effort in the first game of the season.
“We did pretty good for our first game,” Howard said. “There are some things we could work on. We need to knock the ball around a little more, but we are getting better.”
The Eagles play next Dec. 13 at Sierra High School.
