Soccer teams are under rigorous preparation for WSL league that is still yet to come. The Garces Holiday Soccer Festival is the most looked forward to tournament by both the girl and boys soccer teams, Dec. 20-21.
It is a time for student athletes to form acquaintaships and camaraderie with their teams that will unify them for the seasons to come.
For two days, FC soccer teams will be competing for a chance to defeat their brackets and take home with them a victory. This tournament enables teams to bond on and off the field.
Girls soccer coach, Tony Martinez, aspired to win and earn the trophy for the Graces Tournament.
“I just want the girls to do the best they can.” Martinez said. “I am confident we are going to well if we continue to play like we have the last couple of games. Coach Jose and I are happy with the way the team is coming along and we think we have a good chance to be successful”
Martinez elaborates on the preparation the girls have had to begin in order to be ready for the tournament. The games will be long and the girls will possibly have to play for six games.
“We have been preparing by working on communication,” Martinez said. “That preparation is a huge part for the game. Knowing we may possibly play up to 6 games we are conditioning more and working on set plays. We do have players in different positions this year and it has worked out to our benefit so far.”
Junior Gabriela Siqueiros, is excited to form and strengthen relationships with other teammates.
“The Garces Tournament is the best thing about soccer season.” Siqueiros said. “I hope the team performs well because it would be great to beat the division that we are in, but i’m sure that time bonded with the team will be much more rewarding.”
