EAGLES FALL TO FOWLER, 10-1
FC traveled to play the Fowler Redcats in their ninth overall and second league game of the season, April 3.
In their first at bat, the Eagles put what would prove to be their one and only run across, holding Fowler scoreless in the bottom of the first inning. After shutting FC down in the second inning, the Redcats put five runs on the board, taking the lead over the visiting team.
Although the third inning remained scoreless for both teams, FC allowed the home team to add three runs to their score in the fourth inning. Neither team was able to score in their fifth ups, but in the bottom of the sixth inning, after again holding the Eagles scoreless, Fowler added two runs to their score. As FC was unable to produce any runs in the top of the seventh, the game was ended with a score of 10-1, Fowler, giving FC its second consecutive league loss.
Head Coach Jeff Regan recognized a confidence in many of the players during this game that had not been there in the past. He was encouraged, but he does know that the entire team needs to gain that confidence in order to be successful.
“Several players displayed increased composure as they made plays and had at-bats,” Regan said. “We need the entire team to play with increased composure. We are still displaying the inability to play without fear. That inability will prevent this team from continued growth and success.”
Regan believes that the ability to emerge victorious over any team does lie in the ability to execute the plays and drive in the runs, but perhaps even more it lies in the players’ belief that they can win.
“I believe Fowler is a team we can beat,” Regan said. “The players need to have that belief to take advantage of the opportunity to be successful.”
The Eagles will next travel to play the Riverdale Cowgirls at 4 p.m., April 22.
