Eagles fall short all three matches, Oct. 14
The FC Eagles traveled to Oakhurst to face the Minarets High School Mustangs, Oct. 14. It was the second league game for the Eagles.
Going into the game, Senior Ivette Ibarra knew they would need to put up a fight.
“This wasn’t our first time playing Minarets and we know they are a very good team,” Ibarra said. “We knew we would need to step up our level of play and execute the things we have been working on in practice. It needed to be an all around team effort.”
The Mustangs took an early lead in the first match and defeated the Eagles, 25-13.
At the start of the second match, the Eagles were able to keep up with the Mustangs. However, it was not enough as the Eagles lost, 25-13.
As the third match approached, the Eagles refused to give up. However, Minarets fought back and came out victorious, 25-13.
Sophomore Jennifer King felt the team could have put up a better fight against the Mustangs. However, she still believes that they have some things to work on if they want to accomplish this.
“We need to come out prepared to win,” King said. “We need to play to the best of our abilities every single game. We can’t afford to start off slow against a really good team. We have to anticipate that every ball will come back over the net.”
Coach Jonathan Penberthy realized some aspects of the game that the girls need to work on before they face Minarets again.
“We didn’t do as good of a job on receiving serves which didn’t allow us to run an offense,” Penberthy said. “We were constantly on defense which put us in a bad place against a good team. If we do a better job on receiving serves, we will be on offense which will give us more chances to attack.”
Next, the Eagles will be hosting the Parlier Panthers, Oct. 16.
