As FC’s annual homecoming approaches, the tradition of float building begins. The theme for the homecoming this year is Hollywood movie genres. This year’s junior class decided to take on the Roaring 20s.

Madelline Luginbill, ’16, is particularly excited for the genre the class had picked since it is her favorite time period.

“I absolutely love the 1920s!” Luginbill said. “I love everything about that era, especially the flapper girls! I hope to see everyone in our class participate and work together as a team to pull off this theme.”

The class had their first meeting to start making the basic parts of their float, Oct. 11. Macy Mascarenas, ’16, and her family generously provide the trailer for the third year in a row. Claire Kollenkark and Chris Kollenkark, ’16, opened up their home as a work place for the class.

In their last meeting the juniors, were able to get the majority of the painting done and the floor finished. The backdrop still needs some finishing touches, but the class made progress.

Being new to the leadership class, Claire Kollenkark, ’16, wants to see the class grow through the process. She wants everyone’s ideas to be heard so that it is more of a group effort.

“My vision is to have the whole class involved in some way, shape or form,” Kollenkark said. “I want this float to bring our class together. It is our junior year and we are here to dominate! Last year we were so close to winning, but this year I want there to be no question that the juniors are the clear champions.”

Bailey Brogan, ’16, was pleased with their last meeting but still expects more from their class.

“I felt the first meeting went well. We had more people come out and participate than last year,” Brogan said. “However, I would still like to see even more come out to help. If we want to improve on how we did last year, then this really needs to be a team effort. For all future meetings, I would really like to see our class come focused with the mindset to win.”

To pull off a project as extravagant as a float, the juniors will really have to utilize these last few meetings to get all the finishing details done. To do that, it will require involvement from everyone in the class throughout the week of homecoming. The juniors are determined to go all out whether it’s dress up days, the blood drive or the rally; they are coming to win.

The next meeting for the junior class will start at 12 p.m., at the Kollenkark’s house, Oct. 25.
