Jazz band competed in the annual Christian Music Educators Association [CMEA] festival in Hanford on April 7. They played three songs they have been working on for the last couple of months, performing them in front of judges and a live audience at Hanford High School.
?I?m really excited about this festival,? Andrew King, ?06, said. ?It?s a bit nerve-racking to play in front of other schools, but I?m always glad to see the jazz band show their stuff.?
The jazz band received a ?Good? rating, but sophomore Will Hierholzer, trombone player, was given the Outstanding Soloist Award.
The jazz band will also be playing in Ground Zero on April 11. The hour concert, beginning at 7 P.M., will feature the entire repertoire of the jazz band. Desserts will be auctioned off during the concert. All proceeds will go support to the Fresno Christian Jazz Band.
The concert band will also be competing in the CMEA festival on April 14, at Central High School. They will also be playing three songs they have been preparing since first semester.
?The band goes to this festival mainly to get judged,? Paul McEntee, band director, said. ?The judges tell us our strong points and where we need work. I always like to get input from other people about our music.?
