Dear editor,
After reading the January online article, “”Academic responsibility debatable,”” by Alec Kneefel, I agreed that coaches should keep in mind the academic loads of their athletes.
The article discussed the controversy that arises over academic responsibility for student athletes. Some believe coaches are responsible to remind students of their academic work while scheduling their practices. Others feel it is the responsibility of parents to make sure students’ work gets done.
Parents should help keep their son or daughter on track throughout the semester, but the length of practices coaches schedule should be reasonable. By playing a sport the student will hopefully learn how the manage his or her time better, and be able to balance two duties.
Kneefel wrote an unbiased article by just sticking to the opinion of those he interviewed. The article forced the reader to take a moment and decide what they believed on the subject.
Good work.
