Student leadership is taking a more active role in promoting student involvement throughout this new school year. Return to read about how FC students are actively learning, serving and promoting the events on and off campus in this article series.
As the new year begins and students start to get more eager to be involved, leadership is making changes during the first quarter due to the exciting events. During the first quarter, the school has events like homecoming and fall festivus.
This year the leadership class has added Sadies into a group of first semester events for the year. The experience will be on Sept. 26; students will arrive at the school in the morning and take a bus to Great America.
Like several other events, homecoming has approached much sooner than the previous year. Take the time to watch the Vacation Destination-themed activities, Oct. 16. During the week students will dress up in different themed attire each day.
This year, homecoming week will be cut short due to Columbus day on Monday, leaving only four dress-up days throughout the week.
Robert Foshee, the student leadership teacher, has enjoyed the week of homecoming for many years and is happy for the homecoming candidates.
“I’m glad that the students who were nominated for king and queen were nominated because they are all great kids who I have seen grow up to fantastic young adults.” Foshee said. “They are all kids after God’s heart and it’s nice to see who they have become.”

As the week of homecoming approaches, classes are starting to build their annual floats. Each class is required to build a movable float, every year viewing and judging the tradition is one of the larger events that night.
Griffin Schmidt, ’19, leads the freshmen in the leadership class and is getting use to the new ways of high school leadership and preparing for homecoming.
“I am very excited to participate in the homecoming float creation and having the opportunity to bond more with my classmates,” Schmidt said. “My expectations for homecoming night is that it’ll be a lot of fun and that the freshman class will have a great time and learns new skills for the years to come.”
