Student leadership plans different dress up days for homecoming week as a tradition. This year’s theme “Vacation Destinations” fits perfectly with the dress up days, which lead up to Homecoming on Oct. 16.
Monday we did not have school. Tuesday is set as Tourist Tuesday, where you can travel to any destination you like. Wednesday is World Sports Wednesday, when you can support your favorite sports team. Thursday is Jet Lag Thursday, where you can stay in your pjs from last night. Friday is Spirit Day, but a little different this year. Each class supports a different color; Seniors are black, juniors are white, sophomores are maroon, and freshman are silver or grey.

Spirit Day represents class by color, ends dress up days

As homecoming week comes to an end, the annual dress up days come to a close as well. This year’s homecoming theme was vacation destination. Whichever class had the highest percent of students dressed up received points according to their rankings.
Each day had it’s own special theme to dress up for, except Monday when there was no school due to Columbus Day.
Friday’s theme is a spirit wear theme, each class dressed according to the four FC colors. Freshmen wore silver or grey, sophomores wore maroon, juniors wore white and seniors wore black.
Freshman Jonah Lozano was not pleased with the color the freshmen class wore.
“I thought the idea was pretty cool and I think the other colors are too,” Lozano said. “When I found out we had grey, I was disappointed. I still wore it though, to help get our class points.”
Sophomore Erin Wilson enjoys the friendly competition the different colors bring.
“I think it was nice to add a little competition between the class to add towards the points for homecoming,” Wilson said. “I participated because it was a great way to support my class and the school.
Zach Passmore, ’17, participated in dressing for the simple enjoyment of dressing up.
“I think it’s a cool idea having each class represent a FCS color,” Passmore said. “I wore a white shirt to join in on the fun and school spirit of homecoming week”
Senior Sierra Duffy enjoys the way the different colors bring the class together.
“I like the idea of us all being different colors,” Duffy said. “It separates us by class but within each class, it brings us together, especially at the rally when we will all be matching. I participated because it’s our last year and I believe out of all the years to participate in class activities or attend school functions, this is the most important year.”

As the 31st annual FC homecoming comes to a close; students, teachers and administrators moved to the FC gym to finish the week with a rally. With the FC football team determined to win the game against Faith Christian Academy, leadership designed the rally in order to excite the student body and pump them up for the game, Oct. 16.
Student leadership worked to improve and revamp this year’s homecoming game. Using this year’s rally, ASB encourages students to get pumped up for the game tonight with games and cheers. In the end, the seniors won this year’s homecoming rally.
Superintendent Jeremy Brown explains the importance of homecoming week and what was leading up to it.
“I really like watching things come along during homecoming week,” Brown said. “It’s great time to see students get fired up and passionate about being at Fresno Christian. And the rally was the culmination of the whole week, a lot of work that a lot of people have done all represented.”
Brown shares that the homecoming game is not just an event for students, but for alumni as well.
“The homecoming event tonight is really cool,” Brown said. “We’re going into our 40th year, so you get to see four decades of students come back. People will get a chance to experience our culture. And the students now will get to see what they may look like in say 22 years. It’s going to be great.”
Alexis Kalugin, ’16, expresses her excitement for the rally and how she enjoyed the unifying aspect.
“I thought the rally was really fun,” Kalugin said. “I think that it was a really great way for the classes to come together and unify as a school. It was a great bonding experience for everyone I think.”

With a torrent of energy surrounding this week, freshman Griffin Schmidt was prepped and ready for the finale.
“I had been feeling really pumped about this rally,” Schmidt said. “This entire week has been really crazy and all the energy has just really gotten to me. It was a great way to finish the school week and get ready for the game tonight.”

Taylor Cowger, ’17, anticipated great things from the junior class today at the rally and still hopes that they can win the float competition.
“I really thought that the juniors were going to win during the rally today,” Cowger said. “We had a great chant; we were ready and we were pumped. I don’t know what happened. I think we’re still going to win the float competition tonight though. Even though I haven’t been to a float meeting I heard from the other juniors that the float was really good, so I think we’ll win that.”
The FC football team will face off against Faith Christian Academy, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. The Fresno Christian homecoming court will be crowned during half-time. The class floats will also be revealed at half-time. The seniors float theme is Venice; the juniors float theme is Hawaii; the sophomores float theme is Canada; and the freshmen float theme is Paris.
Homecoming day is highlighted always by a spirit rally. This year is not exception. Students dressed in class coordinated colors all day while they separated for a game and cheers. A version of Hungry, Hungry Hippo on skateboards brought many to their feet. Check out the slide show for today’s events.
