Friday night arrived, homecoming had come, and the competition began. The game began at 7 p.m., with people flocking to the field. While FC is a small school, hundreds of families, alumni and nearby neighbors participate in this event. Prior to the game, all princesses who were elected to the homecoming court were introduced to the crowd. After these ceremonies, the whistle was blown, muscles tensed, and the game began with the long awaited for kickoff.
Within the first few minutes, the conclusion of the game became obvious. The Eagles were ready to received the ball first, after three plays, Senior Chris Kollenkark scored on a 43-yard run. The team played hard and exhausted the visiting team. The Eagles scored quite easily and 46-0 lead at halftime. In the first half the team managed to score six touchdowns. Of those six, Breedlove had three of them, junior quarterback Tyler Villines with two, and Kollenkark had one.
The offense played smooth but not with perfection, Faith Christian intercepted the ball but failed to capitalize. The Eagles only needed to punt once and scored on every drive from there. Passing was not the way to go for FC only throwing 5 times. But they still managed to get two touchdowns both to Breedlove. The offense acquired 278 total rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns. Villines had 100 yards and Junior quarterback Nick LeBlanc had 55 yards and three touchdowns.
I was a little nervous at first, but after a couple of plays my nerves were calmed. I think the score did show an accurate representation. We came out fast and strong and were able to carry that out through the entire game. I think we’ll be able to carry out our speed and strength to our next game. — Nick LeBlanc, ’17
After the extended halftime, due to all the homecoming festivities, the Eagles were ready to march on the field and play with the same energy. With a running clock from the start of the half, it made the game go by much faster. The score so high it gave the younger players to prove themselves in a game. The team went for a more running type of offense because the could not be stopped. The Eagles ended up scoring two more touchdowns and finished the game strong.
Roman Endicott, defensive player of the game, took a physical toll during the game, due to exertion.
“It felt very good to play during the homecoming game but I was nauseous and threw up on the sideline,” Endicott said. “I think our score definitely represented the way we played. I think the team will just try and carry over the momentum we already have from these previous games, I don’t think we have anything to forget from this game besides those tiny execution mistakes we need to polish up. After the game I felt mostly just cold and wet from the rain”
Nick LeBlanc, offensive player of the game, reported that his nerves were bothering him at first, but his confidence on the field eventually overcame his nervousness.
“I was a little nervous at first, but after a couple of plays my nerves were calmed,” LeBlanc said. “I think the score did show an accurate representation. We came out fast and strong and were able to carry that out through the entire game. I think we’ll be able to carry out our speed and strength to our next game.”
Defensively, the team played with the same energy they have played with all season. In league play the Eagles have outscored their opponents 169-0. The defense against Faith did not play timid or slow, giving up no only four or five first downs. They were led by Kollenkark with nine tackles.
