Among Fresno’s diverse food culture is a recent creation called Rocket Dogs, which seeks to bring quality food and authentic bratwurst. The idea for Rocket Dogs was kindled when the Lisitsin and Hsia families met at the Well Community Church with the idea of a restaurant. This idea was vague and lacked direction, but months passed and the idea became a reality opening its doors in Sept. of 2015. Along with superior taste the food is also from local suppliers such as The Meat Market of Fresno and Clovis.
Driving into Rocket Dogs is rather complicated if you are heading west on Shaw Ave, once you pull in their is a fairly spacious parking lot with more that enough parking for the small restaurant. Other amenities such as handicapped parking are also present with three disable accessible parking spots right next to the restaurant.
With any new restaurant size of location and customers is rather low, and Rocket Dogs is no different. Often you will be one of two maybe three families if you come after the major lunch hour. But their staff is friendly, not hesitating to ask if any assistance is required.
The selection of food selection is limited but not small, consisting of 15 main dishes and seven sides, desert available. Rocket Dogs also has a selection of specials that change every month adding a unique dish to salivate over. The presentation of the food was stellar, the taste outstanding and the unique variety of side dishes for any taste preference. — Stephen Walters
Although the location is right next to the road it is rather quiet and a muted television projects live sports giving a great after game hangout joint. The overall ambiance is bright, but not blinding. It has a series of tinted windows looking outside the dining area. These are surrounded by a hedge, offering concealment from busy Shaw Avenue.

The service is quick and simple, you walk in and order at the front counter, then sit and wait for your food.
The wait for the food is thankfully small and takes a maximum of 15 minutes for you to receive your food. The front counter people were very friendly and patient, and our server never hesitated to ask if we need any assistance.

I personally enjoyed the Lucky Luciano, a sweet Italian sausage, with grilled peppers, onions and melted mozzarella cheese. This bratwurst had an initial sweet flavor with an underlying spice, while not peppery it was noticeable, and added a second level of taste. The topic of cost is often overlooked in a restaurant with great food but in this case the pricing was universal with $8.99 for bratwurst and sandwiches with a single side to feed three coming in at $2.99.
Overall Rocket Dogs is a quiet and withdrawn restaurant that offers quality food at a low cost while not sacrificing on taste or quality. With all that in mind its perfect for a date or hanging out after a long and energetic sports game. Overall it is a place to return and a place to visit on any special occasion.
