Brother to Brother had their final meeting of the semester Dec. 8. The program will continue through the second semester in the same fashion as the first.
Brother to Brother was started in 2010 by Brother to Brother advisor Terry Richards and with one student, Brady Lee. Richards noticed that a couple junior highers were getting picked on and wanted to start something that would hopefully make a difference in their lives.
“I started Brother to Brother because I felt the junior high guys were getting picked on by the high schoolers all the time and they were afraid of them. I thought, ‘This isn’t good.’ So I decided that I should try this and see if it works. So I started with one person Brady Lee in 2010 and now it has grown to 54.”
His hopes for the junior highers are that they find someone who they can confide in and trust. Richards wants them to have a role model and a mentor when they get into high school. Also he thinks it would be great if they had someone outside of their grade that they could talk to when they enter in high school.
Brother to Brother helps junior highers get acquainted with high school students before they enter which really helps shape them and helps guide them before they enter high school.
