School alters name, theme of spring formal
Night of the Stars (NOTS) has been a tradition at FC for the past 16 years; however, 2016 is the year the tradition will change. In the past, NOTS has been a formal event where students write, film and produce a class movie.
Students get the opportunity to dress in formal attire, attend a nice dinner, and converse with fellow students. The student body parents viewed the parody movies the morning before the event. Parents then voted of the best screenplay, director, actress, actor and other rolls.
For five years, the venue of the event took place at The Grand 1401 in Downtown Fresno. Timothy Melendez, ’17, enjoyed getting to see other students dressed up his freshman year.
“The best part of being at NOTS was watching the movies and seeing who got the awards that night,” Melendez said. “My favorite part about the night was riding in the limo on the way to the event. There was sparkling cider and drinking that with my friends was really fun.”
Last year the location of NOTS changed to Wolf Lakes Park Garden venue; this year the event will take place at the lakeside venue.
Leadership today announced the change from Night of the Stars to spring formal due to the lack of interest in movie creation. Co-leadership advisor, Vickey Belmont, believes that the last couple of years the movie making process had become more difficult without a full time video advisor.
“We (student leadership) felt a name change was needed to differentiate the new platform,” Belmont said. “I feel the student body will be open to the change because the last few years had been a struggle. This year there will be less stress on the students to produce the main event.”
The name for spring formal will be A Night at Gatsby’s, the theme will be the roaring 1920s. The event will be on April 2 at Wolf Lakes Lakeside venue, start time to be announced.

Ticket sales will begin on March 1, last years cost was $65, however this year may change. For further information check back to The Feather.
For many, the spring formal is a must attend event, capping a school year with an evening with friends.
