I grew up watching basketball with my Dad (go Celtics!). I have one sister and no brothers, so I was like the son my Dad never had. We rooted for the best lineup in basketball history (in my humble opinion): Larry Bird, Dennis Johnson, Robert Parish, Kevin McHale and Danny Ainge. Boston is a very strong and loyal sports city. I can’t help but cheer on the Bruins, Red Sox, Revolution, and, of course, the Patriots. Sadly they didn’t make the Super Bowl this year, so that limits my smack talk for the next few weeks. You might think that sports and fashion don’t mix, but you would be wrong.
In honor of Super Bowl 50, the Council of Fashion Designers of America teamed up with the NFL to create 50 footballs for charity. Participating designers created footballs that reflect their personal aesthetic. The footballs are currently on display at nflauction.nfl.com and will be auctioned to raise money for health programs for athletes, youth football, and communities that support the game through the NFL Foundation. Bids start at $500, in case you’re interested. The designs are really unique and fun. Some are classical, some are whimsical. They use many different materials (even Legos!). It must be fun for clothing, jewelry and accessory designers to do something unique and transfer their creativity to a new medium. And it’s all for a good cause. Which football is your favorite? I’m eyeing Tiffany & Co.! ~ Silva If you have questions or topics you’d like to see addressed in this blog, please email me at [email protected]. You can read more from me at onmyshoebox.
