From vibrant paintings to sculptures, artists express their imaginative ideas in many ways. Artistic talent displays many emotions and can be quite intriguing for one’s eye to view. Art class brings forth imaginative ideas in unique forms.
Hours of hard work and creativity will pay off as students get the opportunity to share their artistic talent at the Big Fresno Fair in October. Sharon Scharf, art teacher, enters her students art work into the event each year.
“In the spring I enter thirty-six entrees to the ACSI Art Festival, from there I choose the top artwork to enter into the fair,” Scharf said. “Unless somebody produces something phenomenal, that is how I have generally chosen the artwork that is entered in the fair for the last sixteen years.”
For those students interested in art, the fair allows them to display their work alongside others who have the same passion. Tyler Charest, ’05, had his work entered into the event for the second year.
“It is really fun to go to the fair and see our art work there,” Charest said. “I am very impressed with the other entrees and the talent that they have. Last year I won first place for my division and I was really excited.”
Charest anticipates that he will win with his entry this year. He has been working hard at his artwork and plans to pursue it as a future career.
“It has always come natural to me and its something hat I have always been interested in,” Charest said. “It is hard to find the time that I would like to spend creating new pieces, but when I do it’s a special treat.”
The diversity among the artwork entered is vast. Alluring pieces of art reveal a wide range of beliefs and emotions.
“I hope that our entries will let the light of Jesus shine through all of the darkness,” Scharf said. “Our work should share the love of Christ with those who view it.”
The various types of art are all products of hard work, imagination and talent. Jessica Berg, ’07, won first place for her quilt that she put together to create a skirt. She will be receiving a reward for her efforts at the Big Fresno Fair on Oct. 13.
