Sellers, a three year varsity baseball athlete for FC, is actively involved in school activities, such as sports rallies and drama class. In addition to being a valuable 2nd and left fieldman for the baseball team, Seller spends his after school hours training for various fitness competitions around the central valley.

Powerlifting, one of the many branches of these fitness competitions, has been his specialty for four years now. His personal best records include squatting 435lbs, and benching 305lbs and 500lbs, for a total of 1240lbs. That is about the size of a 155 gallon fish tank.

Sellers gives all the credit for his passion for strength and conditioning to his father, Larry Sellers.

“He powerlifted in the 80’s, and that’s what got me started,” he confesses. “After a while, it just became more of a lifestyle than a hobby.”

Throughout the four years of training and competing, Seller’s faith has also been growing. One of the biggest challenges he faces from this sport is the pressure to build your body with help from steroids and testosterone boosters. Tyler, on the other hand, chooses to rise up to a higher standard. He says the best piece of advice he received was from a close family friend who said, “Don’t mess with any boosters. Let God be your steroid.”

Seller’s goal is to make his life and this sport less about what he can do, but rather what God can accomplish through him.

“Before every competition, I pray that I will leave it all on the platform and that I don’t get injured. He’s not only continually provided safety from injury,” he says, “but blessed me with a positive lifting team. I truly owe it all to Him.”

With college just around the corner, Sellers has decided to attend Fresno City for two years. After completing his general education, he plans on transferring to a state university to major in exercise science and kinesiology. His goal is to be an athletic trainer or physical therapist for a collegiate team.

Tyler Sellers continues to be light on and off the FC campus, leading by example, and honoring God through his actions.
