Dark Souls 3 is set to come out on the 12th of April and I for one am incredibly excited for the game. Something that’s put some what of a damper on my good mood, however, is that the game is already out in Japan.
Now Dark Souls isn’t the first game to release like that. In fact that used to be an industry standard, so that’s not the problem. The problem is that the English version is already complete. Bandai Namco, the publisher of the Souls games, gave the game to some streamers early. Also, with a little region setting exploit, you can access a full English version of the game already on Xbox right now.
This has understandably frustrated people like me, who await game releases like they’ll save my life and now we have to spend a good portion of time dodging spoilers on the internet. Bandai Namco released a statement on the subject saying that they are waiting two weeks to release a patch with upgrades and fixes, then they will release the game in North America.
This confuses me because the point of a patch is to fix things after release and the game hasn’t released here yet. So why give the Japanese audience a, according to them, clearly worse version of the game? No, I think the patch statement is just to get them out of trouble and keep people of their backs until the 12th.
All this being said, I am still anticipating Dark Souls 3 with a firey passion. I’m just disappointed in Namco for this clearly botched release.
