With FC leading 22-6 in the second quarter, senior Ryan Neufeld shoots a jumper before Laton’s senior Colton Minter defends the paint in the Valley championship game, March 2. Neufeld earned MVP honors, earning 12 points, 13 rebounds and 3 steals as the Eagles repeated as champions with a 60-40 win.
Minter was named Mustang player of the game, scoring 10 points while fellow senior Christian Pilgrim added 12 to pace the runners-up.
Last year the Eagles beat Tranquillity, 73-54, for their first Valley championship since 1997. The five starting seniors were not to be denied as they outscored and out chanced Laton for most of the game.
Senior Brady Lee led FC with 14 points while fellow senior Cooper Belmont added 13 to give the Eagles a balanced attack that the Mustangs lacked.
The Eagles have now moved onto CIF State Division V playoffs. Having secured the No. 8 seed, FC will host the No. 9 seeded Holy Martyrs, Wednesday March 7 at 7 p.m.
