AP Literature students judged stories written by the elementary students for the Young Authors Series, April 6.
Every year, the elementary teachers put on this small competition for 2nd-6th grade, challenging their students to write. After the students have submitted their stories, teachers from each class narrow down the selection and submit the top three stories.
The AP English teacher Andrea Donaghe passes them out to her AP students to decide the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. Each winner recieves a ribbon and spiral bound copy of their story. In addition, all the 1st place winners get to sell copies of their stories during open house night.
Donaghe comments about how enjoyable being a part of this competition is.
“I love being apart of the Young Author Series,” Donaghe shares. “Judging the stories usually take a whole period to grade, but my students always enjoy reading them. It is fun seeing the students who were lifers reminisce to when they were apart of this competition. ”

I love reading the kids’ stories! They’re all so imaginative. Writing can be fun, and I think this series may encourage and foster some interest in writing.
