In an effort to gage student interest, the campus hosted its annual Career Day, which includes speakers ranging from ER physicians to sports announcers, April 15. Students signed up to listen to different speakers in three different sessions which gave them the opportunity to explore a wide variety of jobs and expertise instead of only selecting one.
The Career Day representatives were all skilled workers in their profession. The representatives were able to give a message to the high school that was understandable and give them guidelines for the job that can help students get on course as soon as possible. Students were fascinated by what they had to say and learn about potential jobs for the future.
Tyler Villines, ’18, enjoyed career day’s presentation of multiple careers and knowledge speakers brought to students. Villines hopes to go into music as a worship leader and a music teacher.
“I only had time to listen to one speaker and that was Steve Villines because of a baseball game,” Villines said. “Career day really opened my eyes to the variety of occupations there actually are. The opportunities are endless. I would love to get into music somewhere and lead worship as a worship leader and a teacher.”
Appreciating career day, Roman Endicott, ’18, likes the aspect of allowing students to learn about specific fields of work. Endicott hopes to go into the medical field after he graduates high school. Career day has helped Endicott solidify his decision for his career path.
“I listened to Dan Liao and Paul Loeffler,” Endicott said. “Career day has allowed me to gather information about what careers I want to go into from people who actually have been working in their field for many years. I have been wanting to do something in the medical field when I am older for a while. Career day has solidified my decision to go into the medical field.”
Working at the Fresno Fire Department, Captain Koby Johns’ hopes that more FC alumni will join the force. By coming out to career day, Johns’ hopes to have put fire fighting on someone’s radar for a career.
“Mrs. Warkentin asked me to come out to Career Day and I was super excited because I am the only alumni from Fresno Christian that works for the Fresno City Fire Department,” Johns said. “When I was in high school, fire fighting never crossed my mind, so I hope today by presenting, I put it on someone’s career radar. My advice for anyone wanting to go into fire fighting is find fire fighters and pick their brain. Spend time building relationships and take advantage of the opportunities they present.”
Emergency medical physician, Dan Liao, not only enjoys helping the students learn about a career, but also enjoys the platform to help spread the Word of God.
“My son attends here and I had an opportunity to come here to Career Day,” Liao. “I felt like it was a good opportunity to spread the word of God and to also let high school kids know about another potential career path that is exciting.”
While students are still in high school, their futures are approaching quickly. Whether students attend college, join the armed forces, or dive straight into their career, career day is an excellent opportunity to help examine and learn about possible options.
Each speaker enjoyed giving advice to the students and helping them understand their career path. Paul Loeffler, a sports announcer, enjoys talking to the students with hopes that he can help better their future with his advice.
