In Downtown Fresno at Eaton Plaza, many runners and walkers get ready on the starting line in the 10k (6.2 miles) Human Race, Sept. 9.
Many locals participated in this race, which was run by Hands On Central California, to support various organizations in the Central Valley. Along with the 10k race, a 5k (3.1 miles) race started later that morning for participants who did not want to run the 10k. If runners and walkers did not want to support any particular organizations, individuals were able to participate in the races for $20, for adults, and $10 for children under 12, then Hands On Central California would decide where the donations go.
A participant from the 10k race, Annette Foster, was really surprised at the outcome of the race because she is not local.
“I am in the process of training for a Disney half marathon in Florida. I just wanted to donate to the event to support whatever cause needed the money,” Annette said. “I am really surprised, with me not being local, and I have seen that their are over 1200 participants involved. ”
After the race, Hands on Central California, hosted a festival that announced the winners of the race and was a way for locals to have fun as a community together. Many businesses set up booths at the festival to sell various items.
