Show parodies popular movies through skits

They say that laughter provides the best medicine. If that is the case, then Studio C offers a cure that will make you grin from ear to ear. Studio C is a sketch television show that provides family-friendly comedy for all ages. The show was produced in Provo, Utah, by BYUtv.

Over the course of four years, Studio C has produced seven seasons of hilarious sketches that can be watched over and over again.

In 1994, before Studio C came into play, a sketch comedy troupe, who called themselves Divine Comedy (DC), developed at Brigham Young University (BYU). The skits they put on poked fun at popular movies and TV shows.

In 2012, four of the members of DC got together and created Studio C, making clean comedy for all. The idea was brought up by then DC member Matthew Meese, and BYU Broadcasting helped show Studio C to the public.

Although Divine Comedy and Studio C both have the same goal to provide clean and inspiring comedy to everyone, they are two separate entities. Divine Comedy is geared towards a BYU audience and Studio C is focused more on a bigger audience.

Studio C produce their sketches on BYUtv and YouTube. Studio C currently has over one million subscribers and over 600 million views on YouTube, and the number continues to grow.

The show consists of 10 main cast members with four of them contributing to creating Studio C:

Matthew Meese, the head writer and co-creator of Studio C, writes and plays in a consistent amount of sketches throughout the show. Some of the main characters he plays are Captain Literally, Shoulder Angel, and most popular of all, Scott Sterling.

Scott Sterling is a character, played by Meese, who constantly receives injuries by soccer balls as he plays goalie. The video has received over 47 million views on YouTube.

Mallory Everton is one of the three women on the show. She writes some musical sketch comedy pieces, and plays a part in many other sketches.

Their musical parodies are probably by far the funniest. The songs they come up with are very catchy and easy to remember. But most of all, I love that Studio C is family-friendly clean comedy. It makes watching it a lot more enjoyable and hilarious.–Kamryn Schultz

Jason Gray spent three years as a member of DC. He often changes his voice to exactly portray characters in sketches, such as Severus Snape and Batman.

Whitney Call is married to Steven Meek, another member of Studio C, who proposed to her during one of their previous Divine Comedy skits. One of the characters she plays is Ann Withers, a librarian who responds to people in book titles.

The other six main characters play regularly in sketches, and add their own quirks to the show. One of the things that makes Studio C great for anyone is that it appeals to all ages. My parents and sisters love to watch the sketches together and laugh until their sides hurt.

I also like how some of the sketches refer to popular movies or TV shows, and make parodies out of them. The ones I enjoy the most are their Hunger Games musical parodies.

Now I’m not saying all of their sketches are funny. Sometimes it takes some time to search for ones that peak my interest. Some of them are just really short, or they don’t make sense.

It also gets confusing where and when they post different sketches on YouTube and BYUtv. Sometimes they post a sketch on YouTube that already aired on BYUtv a month ago, or vice versa. But besides that, Studio C is a hilarious comedy show that provides lots of smiles and memories, reminding me that sometimes all you need is a little laughter to make things better.

If you are interested in watching Studio C’s individual sketches, check out their YouTube channel. They also air new episodes every week, so check out their page on BYUtv.

Also, make sure to tune in every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 4 p.m. (MT) for a brand new sketch.
