During two days of long hours and unpredictable weather, the girls’ soccer team places third in the division three pool with two wins and three losses at the Peggy Renberg division one tournament held at Clovis West High School.

“Playing in a division one tournament was challenging but it felt great to beat some of the schools that were there,” Ashley Sherr, ’06, team captain, said. “I think our team has finally come together.”

Not only is coming home with two wins and a chance to play for the championship game in the division three pool fun, but it enabled the team to bond on and off the field.

“It was a lot of fun to be able to play at a tournament like that considering I am only a freshmen,” Michelle Rose, ’08, said. “Being able to have a starting position as a freshmen is really cool.”

Even though the girls won only two games, they hold high expectations, hoping to go to the valley championship.

“We practice about three hours a day,” Sherr said. “By the end of the season our team is ready to beat anyone who stands in the way of a Valley Championship.”

Not only do the girls hope to win valley, but the coach believes in them as well.

“I was pleased at how all the girls came together and played to the best of their abilities,” Robert Foshee, soccer coach, said. “This tournament has better prepared us for the league games.”

Many newcomers and underclassmen make up the majority of the team.

“I started playing soccer last year,” Aliza Ford, ’07, said. “My skill has improved a lot and I help the team anyway I can.”

Alumni Gina Arabia returns to become assistant coach after coach Andrea Baier decided to pursue a different career, which did not allow her time to coach the soccer team.

“This is a young soccer team,” Arabia said. “But they have greatly improved since day one and carry a lot of potential.”

The girl’s soccer team will be traveling to Bakersfield to compete in the Garces Invitational on Dec. 17-18. Currently, the girl’s league scores are 1-0.
