Leaders encourage cooperative prayer
Prayer has always been a powerful weapon for the weak, powerful, rich, poor, needy and satisfied. It is a way through which a relationship with God becomes stronger and the growth of Christ-like character flourishes. Here on campus, prayer is considered truly valuable and seen as an essential part of a Christian’s life.
Since late October, faculty and leadership students on campus have been offering students, parents, and staffers the ability to submit personal prayer requests in the prayer buckets around the campus. Once collected, the requests are read by the leaders, who then pray over the specified conditions, people, or situations.
Student body president Hannah Nale, ’17, sees the buckets of prayer as very valuable and powerful.
“I love the new prayer buckets,” Nale said. “It gives us the opportunity to pray specifically for members in our community. We have only gotten a few requests, but those prayers are so important, no matter the number! I encourage students and their families to bring their prayers so we can continue to pray for our FC family.”
Superintendent Jeremy Brown supports the buckets of prayer, and believes FCS can benefit from student’s prayer requests.
“Prayer is an avenue that we have,” Brown said, “to be in relationship with God, talking to him. It is hard to have a relationship with someone you don’t talk to or someone you don’t listen to. If my job is to work with our families and local churches to raise a generation of world changers, prayer has to be at the core.
“Not just praying alone,” Brown continued, “but the power of corporate prayer and the community of lifting up someone else who needs God. My hope is that any student who feels alone can know that by submitting a prayer to the prayer bucket, people who love them are there for them.”
Leadership students collect prayer requests on Thursday mornings 7-8 a.m. at the student drop off areas. The prayer buckets are also accessible at the high school and elementary offices for the rest of the year.
