Cayla Rivas, ’18, races down the El Mirage desert dry lake bed in an attempt to land another Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) world record, Nov. 12.

On her 650cc Buell Blast, Rivas is entered into the 650 MPS-PF (modified partial streamlining – pushrod fuel) class. Classes are based off of motorcycles only, there is no age or gender classes. Rivas is the youngest to compete in motorcycle land speed racing. 

Representing her family business, Chris Rivas V-Twin, Rivas currently holds 11 world records in multiple different classes. She finished this racing season with a personal best speed of 140 m.p.h. within a standing mile, Nov. 13.

Rivas’ father, Chris Rivas also competes in the SCTA motorcycle land speed racing in the 2000 APS-PF. Riding a turbo charged modified Harley Davidson Dyna Glide, Rivas’ father also holds multiple world records with a personal best speed of 244 m.p.h. within a standing mile.
