The tall buildings loom over the huge metropolis as lights fill the city. Floods of people walk to and fro as cars pile up behind one another on the streets. Loud noises echo from block to block as tourists dodge the oncoming cars.
The drama team will accompany the journalism class on a trip to New York City on March 13-19.
“Lots of the students wanted to go to New York this year,” Tom McEntee, drama director, said. “Since the journalism class was also going to New York, we decided to tag along with them.”
This is the first time the drama class will be traveling to New York. McEntee plans to have the class watch professional actors, go to drama workshops at the Lincoln Memorial Arts Center and the Yale School of Arts, accompany the journalism class to three musicals, ?Mama Mia’, ?Phantom of the Opera’ and ?Beauty and the Beast’ and, most importantly, have fun.
“I really hope the drama students will learn something completely new in New York,” McEntee said. “I want them to come back to Fresno and be more confident of their acting abilities. We also will perform a couple of skits over two days in small parks and this should add to our confidence in acting. A workshop leader will give some instruction as to how the students can improve as well.”
Most of the students appear to be ecstatic about the trip.
“I’ve never been to New York before, so I am really excited,” Lindsey Casner, ’08, said. “I can’t wait to see the Statue of Liberty and go shopping.”
