Trevor Morgan shares experiences, journey
Touring member of Third Day, Trevor Morgan, is the new worship director at CrossCity Church. Morgan is the father to Max, ‘23, Milly, ‘25, and Anne Madelyn, ‘27, who all attend Fresno Christian.
Discipleship and teaching pastor at CrossCity, Brent Deffenbacher, describes Morgan as humble, encouraging, jovial and patient. He has impressed Deffenbacher with his ability to lead thousands into the presence of God.
“At the beginning of the year, CrossCity went on a national search to find its next worship leader,” Deffenbacher said. “Years ago, Trevor was in Natalie Grant’s band when she was the featured guest artist on Easter Sunday in the Save Mart Center. Trevor has toured with multiple bands and artists, and is familiar with the Fresno Fairgrounds, Wilson Theater, and CrossCity. He has developed a level of comfort and affinity with the Fresno and Clovis area.
“Even though Trevor has collaborated with and traveled the world he comes across as being very down to earth,” Deffenbacher continued. “He is very approachable and passionate about leading the CrossCity community into the presence of God. We are thrilled to have the Morgan family apart of the CrossCity family.”
Morgan developed his passion for music around the age of seven where he sang in the choir and performed solos for his church. Soon, he found himself taking piano lessons, learning trumpet and discovering his love for guitar. He loves using his guitar to put modern twists on classical hymns he grew up hearing.
“Guitar has definitely been an instrument where as soon as I picked it up, it just felt like it fit,” Morgan says. “It’s amazing how much you can change a song if you’ve only ever heard it on the organ, and all of a sudden you’re hearing it with an acoustic guitar, and it immediately takes on a different form.”
Morgan is a good friend of Mac Powell, the lead singer of Third Day. That connection gave him the opportunity to tour with his band.
“I really got to know all the guys in the band well,” Morgan said. “After that, they approached me and said, ‘we want to back you and just have you make your own CD.’ So they put up the money and we recorded the album, and just released it independently. I went out and opened for them for about a year and a half.”
After that, Mac Powell of Third Day approached him asking Morgan to play guitar for Third Day. He joined the band in January of 2016 as a touring member and will be performing with them at this upcoming Winter Jam at Save Mart Center.
Morgan describes the tours he went on as family friendly as he would only be gone for four or five days.
“All of the guys in the band have families,” Morgan said. “The main goal is to keep your marriage and family as healthy as possible.”
“It’s a great community and really just a great form of accountability,” Morgan said. “You’re on the road with a bunch of other guys and you can really hold each other accountable and have a lot of great conversations about all kinds of stuff, but especially about God and family. It’s pretty amazing, I don’t take for granted. I love being on stage, but I also love the off stage part of it.”Morgan can be found leading worship at CrossCity. Additionally, he will be playing with Third Day at Winter Jam, Nov. 12 in the Save Mart Center.
